Calvin Broadus Jr., better known as Snoop Dogg and previously known as Snoop Doggy Dogg and briefly Snoop Lion, is an American rapper and actor born on October 20, 1971. He first gained fame in 1992 with his appearances on Dr. Dre's "Deep Cover" and "The Chronic." Broadus has sold over 23 million albums in the U.S. and 35 million worldwide, winning an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy, and earning 17 Grammy nominations.
His debut album, "Doggystyle" (1993), produced by Dr. Dre and released by Death Row Records, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and went quadruple-platinum. His second album, "Tha Doggfather" (1996), was also a success. Broadus left Death Row in 1998, joining No Limit Records and releasing three albums, followed by a joint venture with Priority, Capitol, and EMI for "Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss" (2002). He then signed with Geffen for three albums, including "R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece" (2004) featuring the hit "Drop It Like It's Hot."
In addition to music, Broadus has acted in films and hosted TV shows. He briefly became Snoop Lion in 2012, releasing a reggae album, "Reincarnated." His later works include "Bush" (2015), a gospel album "Bible of Love" (2018), and "BODR" (2022). Broadus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016, received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2018, and acquired Death Row Records in 2022.
